Why most GCC templates cause trouble
Word and PDF templates fail in the same predictable ways as CPC templates: they go stale as rules change, they invite incomplete rule lists that do not match the test report, and finished certificates disappear into email threads where nobody can find them when a marketplace or customs broker asks.
A generator approaches the problem differently. Structured fields mean nothing required is missing, citations come from a maintained dataset, and every certificate is stored with its test date so the next renewal is visible before it becomes urgent.
What your GCC template must contain
- Product identification: name, model or SKU, and a description that matches your listing and test report.
- Each CPSC rule, ban, or standard the product is certified to meet, cited precisely (for example 16 CFR Part 1203 for bicycle helmets).
- The certifying party: the importer for imported products, the domestic manufacturer for US-made products.
- Contact information (US address, phone, email) for whoever holds the compliance records.
- Date and place of manufacture — the factory, not your warehouse.
- Date(s) and place(s) of testing, and the laboratory that performed the testing.
- A statement that the product conforms to each cited rule.

Questions people ask
Is a GCC the same as a CPC?
No. A CPC certifies children’s products (designed or marketed primarily for children 12 or under) and always requires testing by a CPSC-accepted third-party laboratory. Is there an official CPSC GCC form?
No. The CPSC prescribes what the certificate must contain, not a form. Any document — including one you generate here — is valid as long as it includes all required elements and is accurate.
Does the GCC need a signature?
The certificate must identify the certifying party by name, title, and contact details. A wet or electronic signature is not the element the CPSC checks — accuracy and completeness of the required elements is.
How often should I regenerate a GCC?
Reissue it when the product design, factory, or materials change, and retest on your laboratory’s recommended schedule — annually is the common convention for marketplace compliance even where a rule does not set one.
