What has to be on a CPSIA tracking label?
Manufacturer or private labeler, location and date of production, and a batch, lot, or run number. The same information goes on the product (where practicable) and on the packaging that stays with the buyer.
Is a tracking label the same thing as a CPC?
No. The tracking label is a physical mark on the unit. The Children’s Product Certificate is the document that cites Section 103 and the other rules. You need both.
Can I just print a sticker?
Only if the sticker survives normal use. A label that peels off in a week is not a tracking label. Molded-in marks, stitched tags, and durable hangtags are the usual answers.
Do handmade or low-volume products need one?
Yes, if they are children’s products. A tag with your name, city, and the month you made the batch satisfies the rule. Traceability is the point, not industrial printing.
