Which rules apply to children’s sleds
- Children’s sleds and toboggans are toys: mechanical integrity, sharp-edge review on formed plastic and metal runners, lead in coatings and substrates, and pull-rope small-parts and strength review.

The testing and certification path
Testing covers impact and structural behavior at cold temperatures where the design claims winter use, edge treatment, rope and handle integrity, and lead screening on prints and coatings. Cold-weather claims pull cold-condition testing into scope — confirm with your laboratory.
Book testing at a laboratory that is CPSC-accepted for each rule, issue the CPC in your own name citing the rules your report supports, and keep the certificate with its test report for at least five years. Marketplaces ask for the pair, not the certificate alone.
Questions people ask
Do sleds have a dedicated CPSC standard?
No mandatory sled standard exists — sleds are children’s products certified under the general children’s rules on your CPC. Design reviews still matter: cold-impact failures are the documented injury mode.
Are snow tubes sleds?
Inflatables marketed for snow follow the same children’s-product rules with inflatable-specific review (valve security, burst behavior). Classify the product honestly and test the failure mode.
