Your new toy launch compliance timeline

A compliant toy launch runs: rules identified at design freeze, lab selected and samples shipped at production start, testing complete before bulk shipment, certificate issued before listing, tracking labels applied in production, and a re-validation calendar set for the year after launch. Compress it only where you have tested data: never between testing and listing.

The timeline in phases

  • Design phase: finalize materials and age grade; get a test plan and quote.
  • Production start: ship production-representative samples to the lab immediately.
  • Pre-shipment: receive the report, generate the CPC, attach report + certificate, brief the freight forwarder on eFiling data.
  • Listing: publish with documents ready, and set the re-validation reminders for the following year.

Where launches blow up

The classic failure is testing the pre-production sample and then changing the factory or material for cost. The new version is a different product with no report. Lock the bill of materials before testing, or budget for testing again after the change. The second classic is listing before documents arrive: Q4 deadlines do not move for excuses.

Questions people ask

How early is too early to test?

Test production-representative samples: too early means the final product differs and the report does not cover it. Freeze materials, then test.

What if the launch date arrives before test results?

Delay the listing. Launching a children’s product without complete certification is the single most expensive mistake in this whole document.

Who owns the timeline in a small company?

One named person: launches fail in the handoffs. The owner tracks design freeze, sample shipment, report arrival, certificate, and listing date.
