Age grading mistakes on Amazon toys
Where mismatches hide
- Hero images showing toddlers with items tested for 6+.
- Bullets saying “baby gift” on a choking-hazard SKU.
- Bundles mixing age grades without testing the youngest user scenario.
- International packaging in foreign languages without US age mark.
Fix path
Either retest to the marketed age or tighten marketing to match the report — then refresh the CPC citations. Do not change listing age without updating certificates.
Questions people ask
Who decides the age grade?
The manufacturer/importer based on developmentally appropriate use and test results — not whatever keyword converts best.
Does ASTM F963 include age determination?
Use recognized age determination practices and document rationale in your technical file; labs can help for borderline products.
