How long CPSIA lab testing takes

Most children’s product lab programs take about one to three weeks of lab time after samples arrive, plus shipping. Rush lanes exist at a premium. The CPC itself takes minutes once you have the report — testing dominates the calendar.

Timeline you should plan

  • Quote + PO: 1–5 business days.
  • Sample ship + receive: depends on China/US routes.
  • Lab queue: commonly 5–15 business days for standard toys.
  • CPC issue + Amazon upload: same day as the report if fields are clean.

What slows reports

Missing material lists, wrong age grade on the form, insufficient sample quantity, failures that trigger redesign, and peak seasons (Q3–Q4 for holiday toys) all add weeks. Book early if Amazon annual revalidation is due.

Questions people ask

Can I list on Amazon while waiting?

You can draft the listing, but children’s ASINs typically need compliant documents before or during compliance checks. Do not publish hoping the report arrives later.

Does rush testing change acceptance?

Rush only changes queue. The lab must still be CPSC-accepted for the rules.
